An Evening Wink From BoBo Berens

Supernatural inspires me. I blog about it, I fic about it, I wrote a 100-page academic thesis about it.

No television show has gripped my heart the way it has, and no piece of fiction ever made me feel the way it does. This isn’t a love I hold close my chest. I spread it around, I babble about it, obsess over it, sprinkle it everywhere, like fairy dust. Not everyone approves but some joys you don’t keep to yourself. I also love telling people who make the show, how much I appreciate what they do.

I don’t tweet much but sometimes, I get this surge of love that comes out of nowhere and I just have to release it in the Twitter-sphere, like a trail of golden butterflies. Last time I love-dialed the SPN cast and crew, I had written my 10 Favorite Demons article of my Decade Anniversary Series. I woke up to a lovely wink from Sir Omundson himself, who seemed to have appreciated what I said about his beard, his hair, and how magnificent I thought his Cain was.

I haven’t been excited about a Supernatural episode like I have about “Red Meat” in a while. I talked about it everywhere, and for a whole week in the comment section of my own report. Still didn’t have enough so I got love drunk and exploded all over Twitter. In the midst of fangirling about codependent brothers, begging my fellow SamnDean lovers to hold me while I wept over the things they do for each other (wasn’t quite as dramatic but a black and white gif of Stitch crying in the rain drove the point home),I told the writers how much I appreciated their portrayal of that relationship that got me hooked, since I laid eyes on Dean, Sam, and fell in love with that “thing” between them… in the space of three seconds.

I’m glad that at least one of them knows how grateful I am for what they do. A toast to you, BoBo, and to the rest of you, who are making season 11 one of my favorite post-Kripke season of the entire series!

Je vous adore,

Vee

    • Not sure I replied to you or made a different comment altogether. Lol, I’m less used to my blog than I’m used to Bella’s. Just in case:

I met my thesis supervisor today. The revision committee came back with notes (finally, I submitted in December 2015). They loved it, gave it a preliminary grade, and I have 1 month to make final corrections before the final submission and subsequent graduation. I will definitely make a celebratory post to announce when the thesis will be published and make it available to those who are interested. It’s in French, supervised by HEC Montréal and it’s all about fandom, social media, fan engagement, intra-fandom tensions, tensions between fandom and producers/actors and the theme I chose to explore these dynamics was Castiel:). It’s coming along. Soon!

      • Will do. I’m sure translation apps should do a decent job translating and in any case, I’ll be here, ready to talk SPN, morning, noon and night. Or defend myself lol. Some of the discussion about my thesis didn’t go over very well on IMDb but that’s part of being a researcher. Every statement/theory/paper will birth a counter statement/theory/paper. It’s a healthy debate. You just have to be open-minded, thick-skinned and believe in your process, research questions and findings. Also acknowledge your biases and man, I’m biased all up in through when it comes to the topic lmao.

      • Yes, I appreciate intellectual honesty. Just straight up telling someone what you believe or know, backed up with logical observations and research. (I’m sure you’ve seen my little rants about fan-wanking.)
It doesnt matter if it’s biased, that’s gonna happen, and that helps spur conversation.
